Published primarily from the 1890s to 1910s, these prints were created by the Photoglob Company in Zürich, Switzerland, and the Detroit Publishing Company in Michigan. The richly colored images look like photographs but are actually ink-based photolithographs, usually 6.5 x 9 inches. Like postcards, the photochroms feature subjects that appeal to travelers, including landscapes, architecture, street scenes, and daily life and culture. The prints were sold as souvenirs and often collected in albums or framed for display. The Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division assembled this collection from two sources that provided prints in mint condition. In 1985, the prints of Europe and the Middle East were purchased from the Galerie Muriset in Switzerland. In 2004, Howard L. Gottlieb generously donated the North American views. Additional photochroms can be found in the collections listed in the [Related Resources](https://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/pgz/related.html) section. ### Ed van der Elsken URL: http://192.168.2.240:42368/ed-van-der-elsken/ Last updated: 2026-08-26T06:11:05.000Z Ed van der Elsken (1925–1990) was a Dutch photographer and filmmaker known for his raw, spontaneous documentary style and his deep engagement with post-war youth culture, street life, and bohemian subcultures. Born in Amsterdam, he initially studied sculpture before turning to photography in the late 1940s. In 1950 he moved to Paris, where he immersed himself in the Left Bank's bohemian scene around Saint-Germain-des-Prés, photographing artists, poets, and drifters. This period produced his best-known work, the photo-novel Love on the Left Bank (1956), which blended documentary photography with a fictional narrative about a group of young expatriates and captured the restless, romantic mood of postwar Parisian youth. After returning to Amsterdam in the mid-1950s, van der Elsken continued working prolifically as a photographer and later as a filmmaker, documenting subjects ranging from jazz musicians and Amsterdam street life to his extensive travels through Asia and Africa. His style was intimate, unpolished, and immersive — he often embedded himself in the worlds he photographed rather than observing from a distance. Notable later works include Sweet Life (1966), a photo book chronicling a world tour, and various experimental short films. The photographs posted are sourced dfrom the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, through their API. ### Coming soon URL: http://192.168.2.240:42368/coming-soon/ Last updated: 2026-08-26T05:42:54.000Z This is Ozioso Online, a brand new site by Gerrit Kuilder that's just getting started.
